The classic photo book portraying the denizens of the Chelsea Hotel in all their eccentric, bohemian glory—back in print in a revised and expanded edition
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the eminent Brazilian photographer Claudio Edinger lived and worked in New York’s legendary Chelsea Hotel. In this classic photo book, he captured the hotel’s eccentric, bohemian denizens—both famous and obscure— in the spaces where they lived. An essay by legendary New York newsman Pete Hamill, as well as texts by Chelsea residents including William S. Burroughs, Arthur C. Clarke, and Warhol superstar Viva, complemented Edinger’s memorable portraits.
Now this highly sought-after volume—winner of the Leica Medal of Excellence—is back in print for the first time in decades, with additional photos from Edinger’s archives; a new foreword by writer and actress Alexandra Auder, who grew up in the hotel; and a new appreciation by Fred Ritchin, the noted writer on photography.
